MEMORIAL
IN MEMORY OF
Martina Peréz
1967 – 2020
Martina Pérez died of COVID-19 on December 2, 2020 as a 53-year-old within the comfort of her home in Tallahassee, Florida.
Born to Margarita and Jose Adriano on April 30, 1967, Martina Rosalia (Adriano) Pérez grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she was born.
After El Cimarron High School in the class of 85’, graduating at the top of her class, Martina earned an academic scholarship to Florida State University (FSU) and graduated with a degree in psychology. It was after a semester-long study that she completed in her senior year that she discovered her love of helping children as well as met her husband, Mateo Pérez. Going back to FSU after marrying Mateo in 1991, Martina earned her PHD while raising her two children, Mateo Jr. and Fatima.
Working a highly successful 31-year career as a child psychologist, specializing in childhood trauma and youth communication skills, Martina never stopped working to help as many kids as possible before she was diagnosed.
In her free time, Martina was very spiritual and had an impressive crystal collection. She was very involved in her community and even offered free counseling services to kids in high risk neighborhoods in Florida. Martina could often be found crafting small toys and knick-knacks for her patients and making her own jewelry. She is described as a woman of great compassion, incredible bravery, and one equipped with a great love of life.
Martina is remembered by her daughter Fatima Hallaway: her son Mateo Pérez Jr.; and her grandchildren Sophia Pérez and Marquis Hallaway.
